Although I needed to be able to turn on the NB with the button on the dock, I eventually found that when I shut down the computer, the power for all peripherals is also turned off. It is important that the C port on the computer is only set to charge the computer not automatically both ways. The power supply is connected to the dock and the dock also powers the computer which is then connected with only one cable.
It met expectations even on port speed.
