The octa-core processor is a great model for workstations, where it delivers reliable and stable performance. The processor belongs to the modern Haswell series and is mounted on the motherboard with the new Intel Socket 2011-3.
This technology can overclock the busy cores or turn off those that are currently idle. Overclocking is done by changing the multiplier. Each core has its own multiplier, so there may be a situation where two cores will be turned off and the remaining cores will be running at a different frequency each.
The processor also includes many other technologies aimed to boost reliability and performance. Its 64-bit architecture allows the processor to work with applications designed for this advanced processing system and, of course, has no issues working with 32-bit applications as well.
Every modern server processor must support virtualisation technologies. The processor includes HW support for Intel VT-x virtualization, which enables you to easily run several independent operating systems on a single machine. It also includes the latest Intel VT-d virtualisation support that adds support for I/O devices in a virtualised environment. As a result, this boosts system reliability and security while increasing the performance of I/O devices in virtualisation environments at the same time. This is an elegant way to reduce the costs in data centres through a better use of resources available.
The processor includes Enhanced Intel Speedstep technology that allows you to reduce power consumption at times when the full power is simply not needed.
