SparkFun Block for Intel Edison - UART

Sparkfun Block is an extension of the Edison electronic kit, made by Intel company; the leader in a desktop processor production. Sparkfun Block is an ultra-small computer platform that serves for both entertaining technological experiments and real design work. The Intel Edison Breakout Board Kit is powered by an Intel Atom dual-core processor with integrated Wi-Fi, Bluetooth interface, 1GB RAM, 4GB SSD storage, all built in a unit of dimensions of 3.5 x 2.5cm.

Edison continues there where the former model Intel Arduino reaches its limits. If you know how to design electronic circuits with Arduin, and its performance is not sufficient anymore, you just easily switch from Arduin to Intel Edison.

This extension is done by the UART console that powers your electronic kit and therefore creates a simple console interface via the FTDI cable. It offers a basic solution for the Intel Edison to work together. This circuit is capable to ensure the performance up to 4V and 500mA for Edison to get through the VSYS line. Moreover, it supplies enough power for other circuits that might be connected to your stack. This is an economical solution that does not require a constant access to the console. By removing the FTDI USB-UART you will eventually get to the minimum power consumption.
