Apple, like many other manufacturers, has been trimming down the contents of its iPhone boxes for some time now. The charging adapter and headphones are no longer included, as many users already own these accessories and don't need new ones. However, if you are new to the world of Apple, you will have to buy them separately. Let us advise you on how to do it.
In addition to the iPhone, the new lower box also includes a Lightning power cable with a USB-C connector and a pocket with a sticker, a clip for removing the SIM card slot and the necessary safety instructions.
Apple began the change with the launch of the iPhone 12 series, but also announced that the change would be phased in for older models as well. Currently, or in the near future, the following iPhones package will not contain an EarPods charger or headphones:
In the past, Apple included a 5W charger in the iPhone package. However, they are not very powerful and charge slowly. The new iPhones support charging up to 20W, so if you want your phone to charge faster, buy a more powerful version. The price difference is negligible but pay attention to the adapter's connector. Some chargers have USB-A, newer ones often have USB-C. Make sure to buy an adapter with the correct connector for your iPhone 14 or iPhone 13.
The new iPhone 14, iPhone 13, iPhone 12, or iPhone SE 2022 models support up to 20W charging; iPhone 11 can handle 18W and iPhone Xr 15W. If you want to enjoy the fastest possible charge, get a charger with at least this power.
A wireless charger is also very well suited to the new (and also previous years') iPhones. Not only is it possible to wirelessly recharge your phone and headphones, but you can also use it to charge your Apple Watch— the charger has a space reserved for one.
The advantage of wireless chargers is undoubtedly convenience. Just place your iPhone on the surface of the charger, and the phone detects the transfer of electricity and charging begins. It is ideal to have a charger, for example, on a bedside table or in a car, because you do not have to worry about finding a cable and sometimes lengthy connections.
The disadvantage may be the need to position your mobile accurately enough for it to the charging pad. Your phone is also less comfortable to operate during charging and when you move it, charging may stop. iPhone 14, iPhone 13, and iPhone 12 models solve this with a strong magnetic connection with the MagSafe Charger.
If you didn't find headphones in your iPhone box and you don't have any others, choose a new set based on how you intend to use them and price. If you want to stick with Apple, you could get the classic wired EarPods. They don't cost much but, due to the wires, doing sports or travelling around town are not always the most comfortable experience. AirPods—iconic white headphones in a small box—offer greater comfort. They are more expensive, but if you pay extra, listening to them daily for several years will be a far more enjoyable experience.
EarPods are headphones that Apple first partnered with the iPhone 5 in 2012. They are available with a Lightning connector or a classic 3.5mm jack. If you don't mind the wires, EarPods are sufficient for casual listening either at home or outdoors.
In contrast, AirPods are True Wireless headphones, which come in a charging case. They work well with iPhones, and AirPods Pro can even filter out ambient noise. You can use touch gestures to control your AirPods and activate the Siri voice assistant with them.
AirPods and AirPods Pro look similar from a distance and are easy to confuse. But on closer inspection, they are different. AirPods have a longer stem but, most importantly, do not support ANC (active noise control).
AirPods Pro come with several attachments and can cancel ambient noise. At the same time, they have shorter legs and are more expensive. Also, the shape of their charging case differs slightly.
