Rear-facing car seats are considered the safest and are recommended for newborns and young children. This type of seat better protects the child in the event of a crash because it spreads the force of the impact over the child's entire body instead of concentrating it on certain parts. However, rear-facing seats can be less comfortable and less fun for older children because they cannot keep track of their surroundings while riding.
