Piezoelectric transducers, such as ceramic or crystal transducers, use the piezoelectric effect (the ability of the crystal to generate an electrical voltage when deformed) to convert tip vibrations into an electrical signal. This type of transducer is simple, durable, and affordable, but usually does not offer as high a sound quality as electromagnetic transducers (which operate on the principle of electromagnetic induction), which have a balanced sound.
