Parking assist systems detect obstacles behind or beside the vehicle and deliver audible beeping that changes depending on how close to the obstacle you get. This makes parking safer and easier and is particularly useful if you spend a lot of time in urban areas.

What to focus on when choosing a parking assist system
Obstacle warning
Parking assist systems detect obstacles in a range from a few centimetres away from the car to about two meters. The system can alert you in two ways.
Audible warning - cheaper models. The beeping intensity increases the closer you get.
Visual display - some models use both an audible warning and show the distance to the obstacle on the dashboard display. The more expensive products also have a rear view camera, so you can see what’s going on behind you directly on the display.
Parking sensor scanning angle
Proximity sensors are able to detect a wide angle of 110° to 150° horizontally and 60° vertically.
Reversing parking sensors and towbars
Parking sensors can be used on cars equipped with a towbar as well. Place the central sensors further away from the centre to make sure they don’t detect the towbar. Some models come with specialised functions that ensure the sensor doesn’t assess the towbar or the spare tyre mounted on the door as an obstacle.

How to install a parking sensor
Most parking assist systems are wired, so you need to connect the wire from the control unit in the trunk to the driver’s cabin. Manually skilled users can install the system themselves using the manual, but if you’re not feeling particularly confident, you should leave it to the professionals. Some parking assist systems communicate wirelessly, in which case you can simply install the sensors on the vehicle and pair the devices according to the manual.
Garage parking sensors
For parking in the garage, there are special parking sensors that you mount into the garage interior instead on the car. They emit a laser beam, which automatically shines a laser on your car to guide you to the perfect parking spot.
