the only thing I managed to get this to work with were microSD cards with microSD reader from Kingston, they are the only ones with such a low current consumption that the iPad allowed to power and connect it
most of the tested cameras are charged from USB, so the iPad/iPhone refuses to connect them due to high current draw
the directory structure that can be loaded and imported has to be the same as when I use the card in the camera, so I have to put the photos in those familiar "DCIM/100PHOTO" directories etc.
