For the first piece purchased, after a year of use, the support probably broke due to fatigue of the material, before that one fan started to jam. The second piece I bought arrived with a broken cable. Despite the complaints described, it is still a good product for little money and manages to cool even a relatively overheating laptop.

You have to reckon with a shorter lifespan

I won't include the speed control in the pros, as it has almost no power and it realistically cools the laptop by some 4 degrees.

the plastic feet broke off after a while
we had 2 of these pads, each time the paws broke off and the second one the regulation broke so the fans didn't turn, I fixed it by combining both pads
in the end I bought another one, which is not exactly the size of our 17 inch laptop, but it has metal legs and so far it holds

You might want to consider a different cooling pad. This one shines nicely and looks nice but the power is minimal, it looks like decoration to me not cooling
