You should definitely use a tap, mainly because distilled is stripped of minerals and the steam unit cannot generate enough steam to pressurize. Distilled water produces less dense steam precisely because of the minerals removed. If you have extremely hard water, the ideal is to use a mix of tap and distilled, but never pure distilled water.
