The wifi router is on the ground floor and upstairs, practically exactly above the router, the signal was weak. Once I hooked this up upstairs and pointed the antennas horizontally and connected to the new network, everything started working beautifully. The speeds and response are virtually the same as if I were sitting right next to the router.
After connecting to wifi and easy setup, I just plugged it into a wall outlet in a room with a weak signal and it has been working beautifully ever since.
I couldn't connect it via WPS, I had to install an app and register

I recommend the Asus extender, because this is slow. It connects to wi-fi, but the subsequent internet speed through this scrub is worse than connecting to the primary wi-fi directly despite the weaker signal. And 4.5m from the primary router is not that far for me. With the iPad connected directly, it runs despite the weak signal up to 11mb/s, but you can't even read a newspaper with this.
