1/2.3" Sensor Size

The 1/2.3-inch sensor size is a figure that describes the physical size of the chip inside the camera. This chip is responsible for capturing light and converting it into a digital image. The designation "1/2.3"" is not based on a direct measurement in inches, but is a standardized size class. In general, the larger the number in the denominator of the fraction, the physically smaller the sensor. A sensor of this size is common in entry-level and consumer devices. Its smaller area means that it captures less light compared to larger sensors. This can be especially noticeable in lower light conditions, such as at dusk, when photos and videos may show more digital noise, an image defect that resembles grain. In good lighting, however, it provides sufficient recording quality for normal use.
