Non-pedal bicycle pedals

Non-pedal pedals, often referred to as "platforms" or "flat pedals", are a classic type of pedal on which the foot is merely placed and not attached to it by any mechanism. Their main function is to provide a stable and large enough surface area to support the shoe while pedalling. The slip-resistant properties are provided by their surface, which is either roughened or fitted with small metal protrusions called pins. These pins 'bite' slightly into the sole of the shoe and prevent the foot from slipping, especially in wet conditions or on more difficult terrain. The advantage of these pedals is that no special cycling shoes are needed and they can be ridden in any normal shoes. At the same time, they allow you to take your foot off the pedal immediately and easily at any time, which is practical for example when riding in the city or for some mountain biking disciplines.
