Sensor size 1/1.28"

The 1/1.28" sensor size is a specification that describes the physical dimensions of the light-sensitive chip inside a camera. The inch designation, such as 1/1.28", does not indicate the actual diagonal, but is an established standard. For comparison, a simple rule applies: the smaller the number after the slash, the larger the sensor. A 1/1.28" sensor is therefore larger than a more common 1/2.55" sensor. A larger sensor area can capture more light. This is particularly beneficial in poorer lighting conditions, for example at dusk or indoors, where photos contain less unwanted digital noise, which is a graininess that degrades image details. Larger sensors also allow for better work with depth of field, meaning a more naturally blurred background behind the main subject can be achieved.
