When sunbathing, UV radiation acts on the skin, creating so-called "free radicals" within it. These are unstable molecules that damage skin cells and contribute to their aging. Substances with antioxidant effect neutralize these free radicals and thus help protect the skin from damage and signs of premature aging, such as wrinkles or loss of elasticity. Sunscreens often contain antioxidants, such as vitamin C, vitamin E, or plant extracts, to provide the skin with additional protection beyond UV filters.
