UVB Protection

UVB radiation is a component of sunlight that penetrates the outer layer of the skin and causes sunburn. The level of protection against this radiation is most commonly expressed by the sun protection factor, known by the abbreviation SPF (Sun Protection Factor). The SPF number indicates how much longer the skin can be exposed to the sun before it burns, compared to its unprotected state. For example, a product with an SPF of 30 theoretically allows one to spend thirty times longer in the sun without the skin reddening. A higher SPF value therefore means a higher degree of blocking of UVB rays. Protection against the second type of solar radiation, UVA, is usually indicated separately.
