I don't know what the previous buyers had, but the filter attaches to the hood just fine. You just have to make sure that the filter is pressed in tight enough and that all 3 paws are in the right place.
As for functionality, it's hard to say yet. I was buying on the day of writing this review, I'll fill in the info later.
