He's doing what he's supposed to do. I solved the problem mentioned by users with splashing of contents out through the vent with a foldable plastic funnel from Ikea. And this has been done before with another brand. And it works everywhere.

water always sizzles with steam through the hole in the lid - however, this is at the expense of not overcooking, so I do not consider it a defect - just pointing out

For the person who wrote here that his rice doesn't burn compared to other rice cookers. I bought it because of that and it's just as rubbish as all the others. I don't really know if there is a good quality rice cooker anymore, but no matter what I do, trying different types of rice, amounts of water and oil to add/remove, it always turns out like this:
