but the short cable can be easily extended without loss of signal quality with an extension cable. I myself have tested the Vention brand, it doesn't happen that the device disconnects on the fly or does other mischief. So really, the cable matters a lot.

Fixed USB cable, better would be a solution with a socket and the possibility to change the cable in case of damage.

Connecting the disk works like connecting any other USB, finally I don' t have to open the case, look for a sata cable and restart the computer when I want to connect a backup sata disk. The only thing I would complain about the product is the “length“ of the cable. The 20 cm or so is really ridiculous, it won' t reach the usb port even if I put it directly on the computer, let alone on the table. I.e. together with the product, I recommend buying another usb extension. But aside from this problem, I am satisfied with the adapter and it met my expectations.
I did not test what is the maximum size of the disk that can be connected, I connected a 3TB disk and it connected without problems.
