usb connected wireless Logitech mouse was skipping, so I'm guessing the chip cannot handle low latencies or somehow interfered with the signal

On both devices I've tried (phone, Chromecast), when I plug the micro-usb power into the hub, the hub stops working -- it only charges, but I don't see either USB or ethernet.
When I disconnect the power, the hub works great. except that it doesn't charge the phone (and thus doesn't turn on Chromecast).
