My unit contains an Asmedia ASM1153E chip, which is a good choice overall for a budget drive enclosure. You might just need to add a spacer pad on the top for some thinner drives.
Cheap device
Metal
They've stuck plastic to the metal on the inside at the bottom, so it won't damage your disc.
The cable is decent
2 screws and a mini screwdriver included in the package
No USB-C
It doesn't have any pads to keep the disk in place.
Doesn't come with screws for securing the drive itself, only for closing the enclosure.

I’d recommend it as an emergency solution, but otherwise no.

After a while, the speeds started to fluctuate up and down.

I keep it as a backup of my computer files. I’ve just realised it isn’t working. It was used a maximum of five times.
It stopped working

I was unlucky. The thread on the side for inserting the disc was cut too small in the metal housing, so that the screws were sticking out about 2 mm. I tried to forcefully cut the thread to the necessary depth and twisted the screw.
