I can't tell yet if it really improves computer performance, but at worst it's at least a nice positionable pad and it cools things down. I bought this because I often sit with my computer on the couch, so I have my computer on my lap. It definitely serves its purpose in that respect, it just has slightly sharper edges on the underside around the perimeter and in some positions it hurts quite a bit, one has to be careful not to put it on bare skin etc. But it's not a big hurdle and so far I'm happy with the purchase. Even when tilted over 60°, it does not slip thanks to the stops underneath, which look very fiddly but hold.
