A mobile phone bought for my father-in-law. The switch from the Samsung A50 to the A57 5G represents a huge technological leap. Thanks to its 120Hz refresh rate, the display is incomparably smoother and much brighter in sunlight. The cheap plastic body has been replaced by a luxurious metal frame and durable Gorilla Glass. At 6.9 mm thick, the phone is extremely slim and has a premium feel. The new 50Mpx camera has optical stabilisation, so it takes great photos even in the dark. With an IP68 rating, the phone is finally fully waterproof and dustproof. The battery lasts for two days of use and, thanks to 45W charging, it charges in a flash. Modern 5G connectivity and six years of software updates ensure a long service life. However, you’ll have to do without a 3.5mm jack for standard wired headphones. You won’t find a charger in the box any more – just a cable; you’ll need to buy the adapter separately. Wi-Fi 6 is much faster than on my old phone, so that’s fine.
