The laptop can fit in there, but I see that more as a positive. Lots of different places.
Fits laptop w x h x d 400.5 mm x 27.9 mm x 294.5 mm 17.3"
Someone probably put some thought into designing the pockets

very durable, strong - I'm not afraid to throw my laptop in it
size
if he lays down underneath, he usually stands on his own
at the knee, e.g. the straps are not the most comfortable when cycling
smaller internal volume than it seems, because of all the reinforcement
few pockets (but given how they are reinforced, this is understandable)

large space
robust zippers
many internal pockets
the straps loosen when worn on one shoulder, but I think this will even out over time as they wear down

The laptop pocket is really spacious, two large laptops with chargers can easily fit in the backpack. At the same time, the (small) pocket at the top provides a large space for small items.
The laptop pocket is really spacious, quiet
Overall a very spacious backpack, all pockets have a large volume
a chest strap might fit, but it definitely wears well without it
