Filter zeolite

Zeolite is a mineral with a highly porous structure that resembles a honeycomb at a microscopic level. Thanks to this structure, it functions in filtration in two ways. Firstly, it serves as a mechanical medium that traps fine impurities and sludge within its pores. Secondly, and this is its key property, it operates on the principle of so-called 'ion exchange'. This means it can bind certain substances dissolved in water, such as ammonia, and release other, harmless ions into the water in their place. Through this process, it actively removes harmful compounds from the water that a standard mechanical filter would not capture. However, its ability to bind substances is limited, and after saturation, it must be replaced or regenerated.
