Maximum Lens Aperture

It is the ratio of the focal length to the diameter of the inlet of the objective lens. For lenses with variable focal lengths, the maximum aperture is around f/2.8, whereas fixed-focal lenses start with a maximum aperture of f/1.4. The aperture also decreases as the focal length increases. A lens with a larger aperture allows for shooting in low light conditions without using a flash.
