Primary combustion

Primary combustion is the basic stage of combustion in which air is fed directly into the area with the burning wood. It is the main release of energy from the fuel, but also the formation of unburned gases. This method of combustion itself is common in older or simpler types of stove where efficiency is lower and emissions higher. In modern stoves it is supplemented by additional stages for more environmentally friendly operation.
