Convex shape

The convex shape of the plexi indicates its curvature outwards, away from the player's face. This curvature has primarily an optical function, as it prevents distortion of the image that could occur with a straight piece of plastic. The player thus sees his surroundings, the puck and his teammates without distortion, even in peripheral vision, i.e. on the sides of the field of vision. The space created between the face and the plexi also allows for better air circulation. Warm and moist air from breathing can escape more easily, which significantly reduces shield fogging during play. The convex surface can also better distribute and dissipate energy during an impact, such as from a puck, by making the object more likely to slide across its surface.
