The Canon EF 8-15mm f/4.0L Fisheye USM lens is a universal "fish eye" type lens. It offers a choice of full-frame or circular image. It belongs to the L series, which provides excellent image quality for wide-angle shots. Series L models represent the top professional Canon EF lenses, the best of precisely designed EF lenses. Lenses in the L series combine superior performance with superior control and high resistance to moisture and dust.
When using a full-frame camera sensor (24 × 36mm), there is no need to purchase two special lenses because the EF 8-15mm f/4.0L Fisheye USM offers the possibility of full-frame as well as circular images with a "fish eye" effect. Photographers who use DSLRs with a smaller sensor can capture full-frame images with the "fish eye" effect. Capturing the entire scene has never been easier when you can use a 180-degree diagonal field of view.
The USM ring motor (ultrasonic motor) uses ultrasonic frequency vibrations to provide extremely fast and near-silent autofocus. The high-speed CPU and optimised autofocus algorithm also contribute to high-speed autofocus. You can transition to full manual focus without turning off the AF mode.
The patented structure of the surface layers, designed by Canon for digital cameras, helps to minimise ghosting and flare caused by reflections inside the lens. The surface treatment eliminates the causes of glare and helps to achieve sharp and clear images. The first and last elements in the lens are treated with fluorine coating, which in comparison with other surface treatments is easier for lens cleaning.
