Standard or narrow? What dimensions, load capacity, energy class should the right dryer for me have? What is the delayed start function? Are there any other parameters I should base my choice of dryer on? We will advise you on how to choose a dryer for your home.
Dryers are usually manufactured sizes of 85 × 60 × 60 cm. For smaller bathrooms, a narrower slim variant with a depth of 45 - 60 cm is available. The dryer can be stacked on top of a washing machine with a depth of at least 55 cm using the appropriate adapter. Appliances from the same manufacturer are therefore not necessary.
Front-loading dryers have a larger drum than top-loading dryers. They can hold up to 10.5 kg of laundry, while top-loading dryers only 6 kg. For households with 1 or 2 members, a capacity of 6–7 kg is suitable. For an ordinary family with 4 members a load capacity of 8–9 kg is preferable, and for larger households we recommend dryers with a capacity of 10 kg.
Condenser dryers work on the principle of condensation of air humidity to water. Condensed water is drained directly out through the plumbing or into a tank that you pour out after drying. Condensing dryers with a heat pump can convert the heated air generated during drying into energy, which they reuse. Energy savings with a heat pump can reach up to 50%.
The energy class indicates the grouping according to the energy consumption of the appliance when in operation. For easier selection, there is an energy label, which is mandatory for each dryer. The most economical models currently bear the designations A +, A ++ and A +++, the less economical ones fall into energy classes of A and B and the least economical ones into class C.
Energy consumption |
Consumption in kWh |
Cost in CZK |
---|---|---|
A+++ | 1,27 | 4,7 |
A++ | 1,35 | 5 |
A+ | 1,5 | 5,6 |
A | 1,62 | 6 |
B | 2,1 | 7,8 |
C | 2,5 | 9,3 |
* Calculated at the price of CZK 3.71 / kWh * Energy consumption is affected by the type of dryer, the selected program and other factors. |
The child lock is an electronic lock accessible on the control panel of the machine. This acts as a safety protection for small children, after activating this setting it cannot be changed unintentionally nor can the dryer be switched on accidentally by a child playing with the buttons.
Tumble dryers can be equipped with many practical functions that will greatly simplify and speed up the drying process.
The lighting of the drum will help you when removing the laundry from the dryer as you will not miss any items. We commonly encounter halogen lighting, but more expensive models have LED light sources that are more economical and require almost no maintenance.
Heat pump dryers (condensers) are the most common and are suitable for every household that dries regularly. They remove moisture from the laundry by cooling the hot air and reusing the energy generated. The evaporated water is discharged directly into the plumbing or into a built-in tank, which you just need to pour out after drying. When drying, they use a closed cycle and a lower temperature, so they consume less energy.
Combined washer-dryers are an ideal solution for a small space, as they combine a washing machine and a dryer. Some models have different drum capacities for washing and drying. They consume more water and before drying, in the case of a full drum, part of the laundry must be removed.
The adapters are used for comfortable and safe installation of the dryer on the washing machine. The drying basket does not rotate inside the appliance and is ideal for drying very soft sweaters, shoes or soft toys. Condensation drainage kits drain water directly into the sink or drain. Reusable dryer balloons soften laundry without the use of chemicals, shorten drying time and save energy. Scented wipes for dryers also soften the laundry, in addition it smells good and makes ironing easier.
The dryer does not have to be from the same manufacturer as your washing machine. However, it is important to think about the capacity so that you can transfer the laundry to the dryer immediately after washing.
If the washing machine has a minimum depth of 55 cm, you can place the dryer on top of it using an adapter. The adapters belong to the individual dryers, so it doesn't matter if you have a washing machine and dryer from the same or different manufacturers. There are different types of spacers. They can be simple or with a practical pull-out shelf on which you can place a basket when taking the laundry out of the dryer. They are sold separately or directly in a package with the dryer.
The dryer itself softens and fluffs, so no fabric softener is needed. Repeated use of fabric softener clogs the dryer and then destroys it. Omitting fabric softener has many advantages. These emollients do not actually soften the fabric, but coat it with a layer that traps other impurities and can cause allergies or skin irritation. It is therefore advisable to live ecologically and without putting any chemicals in a dryer.
For households with 1 or 2 members, a capacity of 6-7 kg is suitable. For an ordinary family with 4 members a load capacity of 8-9 kg is suitable, and for larger households we recommend dryers with a capacity of 10 kg.
The energy class expresses energy consumption and drying efficiency. Very economical dryers are marked A +, A ++ and A +++. With a higher energy class, the price of the dryer also increases, so dryers in class A +++ are suitable for frequent drying, as the money you will save on energy and water bills will pay for the machine in a relatively short period of time.
It depends on the model. All condensing dryers have water tanks and some of them can be plumbed in like a washing machine.
Conventional dryers have dimensions of 85 × 60 × 60 cm, but there are also dryers that are 45 cm narrow or, conversely, up to 79 cm wide in the case of ventilation dryers. Narrow models are designed for smaller bathrooms and have a lower load capacity. If you do not have a problem with space, we recommend choosing standard dimensions with a higher capacity.
If you dry your laundry indoors or outdoors, it catches some dirt. When drying in the apartment, moisture is released into the apartment and mold can form. Dust, pollen and mold are one of the most common allergens. The clothes these get caught on can make your allergies worse.
Yes. Today's dryers have such a fine filter that you no longer have to fight with the animal fur of your pets and buy one adhesive roller after another. Another advantage is the removal of unsightly lumps from some items of clothing, such as sweaters and coarser materials. This will make the clothes look like new for longer.
Fuzzy Logic and 6th sense technologies work on the same principle. It differs only in the name depending on which manufacturer the dryer comes from. It is a sensor that constantly monitors the humidity of the laundry. Based on this, it adjusts the length of the drying cycle. This system has an efficiency advantage - the laundry is dry without unnecessary prolongation of drying, thus saving energy.
The inverter motor is more reliable and durable than conventional motors using carbons, which wear out over time and cause friction and sparking. The inverter motor works on the principle of electronic speed control, which reduces vibration and wear and provides higher power at lower noise levels. Inverter motor manufacturers usually provide a 10-year warranty.
The steam function serves to refresh the laundry, remove creases and eliminate odors and allergens. The steam naturally loosens the fibers, fluffs them and evens out the folds. The laundry is not only dried, but also ironed. The steam function is also suitable for very delicate laundry.
