What to focus on when buying car mats

Material

  • Carpet mats - look very nice and elegant, but their maintenance is more demanding. Removal of dried or ingrained dirt in particular can be a challenge.
  • Rubber mats - much easier to clean compared to carpet mats. You can just rinse them with water and you are done. On the other hand, they do not look as nice as carpet mats. This type is ideal for winter months or cars in which you often wear dirty clothes.

Type

  • Custom mats - tailor-made for a specific model, but can be somewhat more expensive than universal mats.
  • Universal mats - tend to have a simpler shape, making them suitable for multiple cars. Rubber mats often feature some trimming options, so you can customise the mat to your car. Before buying universal car mats, make sure their size matches your car; you do not want them to be either too large or too small.
