From the start, Bourjois cosmetics set out to discover, design and create elegant products for modern women, bringing the contemporary style from the streets of Paris to the whole world.
Brand history
In 1863, stage actor Joseph-Albet Ponsin created a cosmetic product for use by stage actresses. Around the same time, Alexander-Napoleon Bourjois was experimenting with his own make-up products. In 1868, these two inventors come together to join forces and the Bourjois brand was born.
During its first decade, the Bourjois factory produced more than 2 million products. By the end of the 19th century, its products were exported all over the world, with product instructions translated into 17 different languages. In 1898, the first Bourjois catalogue was created, containing over 700 products with pictures and detailed descriptions. In 1936, the company released a brochures titled "Why women should vote!" and heavily supported the women's rights movement.
