After the phenomenal success of the high-end GeForce GTX 970 and 980 graphics chips, NVIDIA turned its attention to the middle of the range. The result is the GTX 960 with brand-new GM206 Maxwell architecture and amazing performance.
With the advent of a new console generation, the bar for graphics benchmarks has risen on the PC as well. With the upcoming PC releases of GTA V and the Witcher 3, for example, hardware requirements have risen sharply, requiring costly hardware upgrades. To meet this demand, we offer the GTX 960, offering next-gen performance at a surprisingly low price.
The completely new GM206 GPU contains a total of 1024 stream processors, 64 texture units and 32 ROPs. Nvidia also chose a streamlined 128-bit memory interface, which can actually handle far more data tanks to delta compression.
The Maxwell Chip’s trump card is significantly lower power consumption and an amazing price/performance ratio. Most builds will only require one six pin connector to power the card, but there are two connectors anyway for avid overclockers. DirectX 12 and H.265 hardware acceleration are also supported.
ASUS always strives to offer its customers more than others. The first batch of ASUS GTX960-STRIX cards is almost completely sold out and already garnering many satisfied reports.
This model boasts up to 12% more power than the conventional reference card through virtually perfect operating characteristics. A massive DirectCU II cooler runs in passive mode up to a temperature of 65°C, at which point dual fans activate, optimizing power and noise.
Of course there is also manual control, for example, with the supplied GPU program Tweak, which allows you to hit frequencies of 1317 MHz.
