Even a few years ago, the completely unthinkable connection between Intel and AMD has become reality. Intel needs a powerful graphics card integrated with a processor. Developing your own hardware would take a long time, but fortunately AMD Vega is available on the market. What will be the new Intel Kaby Lake-G platform and what will it be designed for?
For some time, the cooperation of Intel and AMD rumors because competing NVIDIA has specifically gaming notebooks considerable advantage. The creation of the multichip module was therefore quite a logical step. Surprisingly, however, is the speed of the new dere on the market. Intel has succeeded in developing a brand-new EMIB (Embedded Multi-Die Interconnect Bridge) bridge that is designed to interface CPUs and GPUs. Then there was nothing to prevent the emergence of a completely new processor platform called Intel Kaby Lake-G.
Thanks to the use of a multichip module, it will make a significant saving of space (about 50%) and it will also be much easier to cool down. Perhaps a passive cooler, which will come in handy especially in thin ultrabots.
You certainly care about the most important thing. What will the new Intel Kaby Lake-G processor perform in games? We have to take it nicely. The core will be the high-end quad-core Intel Core i7 processor. The integrated graphics core under the AMD Vega chipset will probably have 1,536 Stream processors and, above all, a very fast and data-conscious modern HBM2 memory. The planned graphical performance can be expected to be around 3.3 TFLOPS. This is not bad for integrated graphics. And we still have to take into account that this is the first generation.
But what will the Intel Kaby Lake-G performance be in practice? We expect it to move very close to the NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 . Depending on the selected tactics, it may, of course, also be lower, ie GeForce GTX 1050 Ti. You can enjoy the vast majority of games in Full HD resolution. However, the notebook will still be relatively economical and will certainly last for the flashlight much longer than models with a similarly powerful NVIDIA graphics card .
We will not bother, but one of the main motivations for AMD is to remove a portion of NVIDIA's profits. If you want a gaming notebook today, you must always take a model with a dedicated NVIDIA graphics card . And last successful generation, Pascal actually first compared the GPU performance for both desktop and notebook computers, and AMD ran off for a few more times.
However, if Intel (along with AMD) offers an integrated graphics processor that will tighten most of the Full HD games, it will not be necessary to choose dedicated graphics laptops in many cases. These have, in principle, a number of operational ailments - higher consumption, short battery life and a more massive design due to sufficient cooling in the load. Intel Kaby Lake-G has a very high chance of succeeding.
The turbulent period after the announcement of Intelu's cooperation with AMD is not over yet. Intel has completely shifted to its ranks the head of the AMD graphics division. Raja Koduri changed his jersey unexpectedly, and at Intel he immediately became the head of the new Core and Visual Computing Group. It is practically confirmed that Intel will launch its own graphics cards. It seems that Intel Kaby Lake-G is just the first swallow.
The initial announcement and the introduction of interesting information about Intel Kaby Lake-G are behind us. Further news can be expected at the CES 2018, which will take place again in Las Vegas on January 9, 2018 - January 12, 2018. Although the release date has not been officially announced, we expect the first laptops (possibly mini computers Intel NUC) will appear during the first quarter of 2018. We will also see if a similar solution is not demanded for both their computers and Apple.
