EDIT: So, in the end, I’m sorting out the issue with the display with the complaints department. Ever since I started using it more actively as a touchscreen, those stripes have been really noticeable and are quite distracting. I’ll see how it turns out. I’m sorry about that – it’s the only fly in the ointment; otherwise, everything seems great. This is what it looks like after cleaning – see below. photo (lit by a torch; normally, you can hardly see it after cleaning, but once you’ve touched it a few times, it really stands out and is visible even when the screen is on – this is the first time I’ve come across something like this)
I’ve only had it for a short while, but I’m really pleasantly surprised.
The system runs quite smoothly.
The integrated graphics card can handle WOT Blitz and AoE DE on reduced detail settings, which surprised me – I’d expected to have to resort to card games or chess to pass the time.
I’ve got a powerful PC, so I bought this for when I’m travelling and for use on the sofa, where I wanted something running a full version of Windows (to ensure compatibility between programmes on my PC and laptop). I really do make use of every possible layout; it’s practical. A classic (i.e. with a mouse) for any kind of work or gaming. The tent I’ve got next to me at the conference. a tablet for browsing the web (touchscreen). A tablet, for when I want to take it with me to the sofa and get comfortable.
In tablet mode, there is nothing to obstruct the inflow and outflow of air for cooling. It’s a very clever solution. You can lean it against your body or your leg, or lay it down, and nothing gets squashed. Air is drawn in through the gap between the display and the body (a small gap, but running all the way round; air resistance is low, but it never becomes blocked, unlike when a standard laptop is placed on its base) and is expelled at the top, near the hinges.
Battery life of several hours during normal use (without the battery saver – at normal performance). That’s a huge improvement on my old laptop, which, even when brand new, only lasted a maximum of two hours.
The display is coated at the factory with what appears to be a hydrophobic layer, which, as the display becomes greasy, becomes visible in regular vertical 0.5 cm stripes (as if applied by machine). It’s just my guess. It doesn’t affect how it works, and you can’t see it once the screen has been cleaned. I don’t use any cleaning chemicals. It’s probably not grounds for a complaint or a return, but it did strike me as odd.
Given that this is a touchscreen device, I would have expected protective films (clear, standard) to be readily available, but the opposite is true. There are just a few overpriced ones with various extra features (which I don’t want). I’d welcome a more affordable, basic, standard version.
