I needed it as an extension cord because my HDD was just hanging in my locker and since it already has 2 ends, why not. This does not exclude the possibility of a future SSD or HDD purchase: D. do not use the reduction from the old connector to sata if you have sata on the power supply. Often it has failures and you think you have a defective thing.
