I already have one American Tourister suitcase at home, a SoundBox in the largest size, and it serves me well, so I assumed I'd be happy with the same brand again. Well, after bringing the suitcase home, unpacking it from the plastic and opening it for the first time, I had a great desire to return it right away. From the outside, it looks pretty solid, pretty decently crafted. The first unpleasant discovery was that the trunk did not have a side handle: -o I'm used to that with my much cheaper smaller suitcases from IKEA and LIDL, so I expected something so important to be a given with a suitcase that was twice as expensive. Well, for the first time, the manufacturer misled me that a better known and more reputable brand and a more expensive suitcase does not guarantee better quality. After opening the trunk for the first time, disappointment and dissatisfaction unfortunately continued; -o The execution of the interior equipment at the first impression looks very sloppily made, the stitching is worn out, it does not look very straight and thorough. Nothing to inspire confidence. The cross-straps, which are intended to hold the contents inside, are so short in the main chamber that they can only hold perhaps a quarter or a third of the contents, certainly not the entire contents, as is usual for the purpose of these cross-straps. And so do all my other suitcases. And in the other part of the suitcase, they are placed in a shallow mesh pocket, where only something very thin can fit, for example a folder with papers, or perhaps one shirt or T-shirt. But since it's held in place by a mesh pocket anyway, they're completely unnecessary here. So whoever designed or manufactured the internal layout of this trunk must have either had the IQ of a pumpkin or been completely stoned, otherwise I can't explain it when even all the other cheaper trunks are better. In the end, after much hesitation, I kept the suitcase just because: 1) There are desperately few other four-wheeled suitcases on the market with a similar volume of around 43 litres or more, i.e. just a hair bigger than most regular cabin luggage, so I had enough room for all my stuff for a comfortable trip and for my party clothes, including coat and shoes for multi-day business trips and holiday long weekends. 2) I was able to solve the missing side handle with a separate external strap around the trunk, which has a handy grip, for 94 CZK from Decathlon: -D Only it is sad when the shortcomings of the manufacturer have to be solved by the user with his own inventiveness and imagination, with a reputable brand they should know that the suitcase is put on a shelf above the seats in vehicles when travelling and such shelves do not have a depth of 60 cm, so that the suitcase always fits in them in height, but it must be put in width, and therefore needs a handle on the side, not just on the top. Oddly enough, the AmericanTourister doesn't have a side handle on any of the smaller size models, so even another model of this brand wouldn't meet my expectations: o( 3) The suitcase was at a sale price, I wouldn't want it for the full price recommended by the manufacturer. 4) I was in quite a hurry for the suitcase and was lazy to browse the web again, checking volumes, weights and prices and thinking about quality. So in the end I resigned and kept the suitcase, but I definitely cannot recommend it and if I were choosing again and already had the information I have about this suitcase, I would not choose it again.
One of the few suitcases with this medium-small volume
The external design looks quite robust
The internal design of the partitions looks rather poor
Lack of side handle
Cross straps inside the trunk completely unusable
