I think a heatsink can extend the life of the drive and possibly prevent overheating. It's also good to remember that even if the temperature difference is not significant at lower temperatures, it can really help at higher temperatures when the fans are running full blast and the heat transfer is higher.
So far my drive hasn't overheated (I've had it for about a year)
The temperature has dropped from 55 °C to about 47 °C.
Assembly requires some patience
The two rubber bands on the attachment don't inspire confidence in me, but so far it's holding

Rubber bands, rubber bands and rubber bands again - half of them will break right at the assembly and the other half within a month, so the cooler will fall (if you are lucky, it won't scratch other components or the motherboard)
Better to buy Gelid IceCap, which holds metal clips
