it's glossy (we used to have a matte one, the surface is something like velvety rubber, silicone I don't know, and it was hell, terribly sticky) this one is great, washes off with a cloth and like new
if you don't put too much coffee and really let it go long enough (until it doesn't even shake a bit) then the coffee is really fine
pleasant appearance, relatively easy maintenance
I wouldn't do it again.
the lid runs all the way in, so when pulling it out it tends to pull the ground coffee in the dust on the line
emptying is not easy, a lot of coffee stays in the blades and if you don't have a brush or some eraser they stay there forever
when emptying, the ground coffee falls into the trigger mechanism, so that it crunches when pressed
you can't scoop the coffee out of it - it has to be dumped into some kind of bowl (the blades are either high up or it's just a shallow space, but the coffee scoop extracts a maximum of one portion - we have another one at home where you can use the scoop to pick out the last batch)
