Back in 2000, I had a rugged Nokia 6250 phone. Since then, I have replaced several of them. Some had terrible operating systems, others had terrible menu-controls, some stopped working at the first rain. Now I have newly (long and carefully) chosen the best button-resistant phone and I chose the CAT B40. The main criteria were quality and durability. CAT is - of the durable phones - the only better quality brand that so-called. "has a name", the B40 has a degree of protection IP69 (i.e. even against splashing water!, which is rare, resistant phones tend to have only IP68, only for immersion in water) and even meets the military standard MIL 810. Beware, some sellers don't know that the phone meets the military standard and they don't even have it on the website, I had to find out myself for example. at catphones.com. The battery lasted 10 days and there was still 15% left (I'm sure for the next day or two) - I had a few SMS, a few calls and a few photos a day, I did the initial setup, I left the phone off at night from 23 to 05 h (it can be set in the menu). So I rate the battery as very decent. The camera is only 2mpx and it's miserable. I certainly wouldn't take vacation or exhibition photos with it. But it's enough to document a case where your excavator gets stuck in the mud. Fortunately, the phone doesn't have an operating system, so the menu runs nicely. However, the phone does not display the menu, etc. has a very peculiar vocabulary and sometimes the control is not quite intuitive, so I recommend the phone more for experienced users who are used to button phones. For example. instead of the expected "Display settings" the phone has "View", instead of "Battery status display" it has "Power management", instead of "New SMS" it has "New chat", instead of "Back" it has "Done", etc. Beware, if you want to send SMS to a recipient from tel. list, the procedure is tricky: Contacts, Mark, Options, OK. If you search for a contact and "Select", the SMS is not sent. The manuals (both quick and downloaded PDF) are almost useless, the user has to know how to use the button phones, they have to be able to just outsmart the phone sometimes, try many things and figure it out on their own. As a phone more or less just for texting and calling, but one that can withstand just about anything, it's absolutely ideal. It's a kind of tank phone: -)
