The pad is pleasantly soft but firm, long enough and unlike others (especially the one with three sides from the same company) has high sides which is necessary if you have a boy who likes to pee sideways especially at the beginning: ).
A changing mat is ideal to start with, but if you also want to roll your little one onto their tummy on the mat, it's not wide enough, so think about what's more important to you, saving space on the sides or positioning. Fits perfectly (widthwise) into the changing table from IKEA (SNIGLAR, GULLIVER).
