The transition from the B450 native ACL1938 chipset is abysmal. That is, with matching headphones and speakers. If you have some cheap set or lowcost headphones, you won't even notice the difference.
Installation was seamless, no software or EQ needed, I just set the headphone output to 2.0 because it sounded better
I wanted a replacement for my old favourite Sound Blasters (Live and Audigy 2) and luckily I still found them without compromise in 2023 with a 20 year old design in the Audigy Rx. Now just to last forever.
fully replaced my old favourite Audigy 2 ZS
clean, unadulterated sound with simple bass and treble adjustments that I'm used to from Sound Blaster
can 1:1 copy the stereo source to the rear speakers in analogue 4.0 configuration (CMSS Stereo Surround), which the new cards can't do (they always invent 3D effects)
small PCIe slot card (I don't have to find motherboards with old PCI)
works with Daniel K's Audigy support pack 8.1 (but the project is now abandoned) on 64 bit Windows 10 and 11
EAX via Creative ALchemy in old games
I do like the gold-plated 3.5mm connectors, they look much more solid than the regular coloured ones, but the embossed markings on the jacks are as indistinct as on the old Audigas
low hum, there is simply no silence in quiet speakers
Compared to the Creative X-Fi, this soundbar is a tragedy. The price is low, but it handles about what Realtek does on a slightly above average motherboard. There is no graphic equalizer in the software (! ), only in EAX mode and setting it up is like fixing a watch with a backhoe. It has no mixer (just volume of both mics), passable cmss, so you can hear the difference between stereo and 5.1 surround sound with a simple stereo recording. EAX is almost unusable and doesn't have all the features of the old X-Fi. The software has one window with 7 tabs, which contain the minimum. So to set something up, you click and click and click. But there's not much to set up, so you don't click. It would fit in one window. I will use it instead of Realtek, because it can play audio in ASIO mode and also direct audio from windows (compared to Realtek, which does not play audio in windows when using ASIO). So for playing music and movies, the built-in soundbar is enough, which also has the equalizer. I would take an old X-fi, but I won't plug it in because of the old connector to the motherboard: (
Quite a passable sound card that is dated, but still gets the job done. Once installed, there is a noticeable increase in volume over the base ZK on the board, plus the bass is also enhanced. Absolutely trivial program delivered, but for amateurs absolutely sufficient for the setup. The disadvantage is the lack of shielding, if you have a small board and it is close to the graphics card, so under load (when playing games) you can hear the grain and if there is an M2 disk underneath it so also. I recommend it for large boards, after my replacement with a larger one, these ailments no longer appear.
Price
Internal, does not take up additional USB
Optics
Simple program to control
Compared to integrated ZK, volume increase of approx. 30%
Hassle-free commissioning. Number of inputs and outputs (e. g. digital optical output). For the average user with a stereo set, there is no unnecessary investment, compared to the integrated soundboard on the motherboard, there is no audible difference (if such a user wants better sound, it pays to invest in better speakers). The package does not include a screw for attaching the card to the cabinet.
easy installation
digital optical output

7 years ago, if you had a PC that didn't already have integrated HD audio, it was good, I guess.
it could be good for analogue recording too, I guess.
it is from 2013, it is written on it, but you will not find out about it before you buy it. It all works through software, but the software is long outdated, and you need a new soundcard for a new one.
24bit 192kHz today is every soundcard (integr. HD audio), so this model can do the same as the integrated sound, the same quality, not higher
compared to the integrated Realtek HD Audio on the board, it seems to me that it distorts, i.e. that it's a downgrade. I don't know why the 2013 product is still selling. I was expecting an upgrade over the integrated HD audio.
After installing the driver, the sound quality deteriorated, the noise from the computer was pronounced even at low sound levels.
Music playback is "dry" and boring (Sony 10000XM4 via cable).
