the tax for the BOA strap tightening system is that on a woman's head the headband does not hold during sports - it can no longer be tightened, and on a man's it is just barely. Nowhere is this fact/experience stated. It seems to me that the length of the strap is meant to be worn on a helmet or over a hat, rather than directly on the head.
