I had two requirements for the new watch - NFC payments and long battery life (I refuse to charge my watch every day). I've been waiting a year to see if Samsung would finally come out with a Galaxie Fit 3 that would support pay as you go, but it still hasn't come. Xiaomi Mi Band 7 has NFC, but it is not supported by my bank. Moreover, in the current political situation, I would honestly feel safer making payments through Western companies than Chinese ones. So I had the Fitbit Charge 5 in my sights as a replacement option and once the bracelet on my old watch broke for the second time, it was a signal for me not to wait any longer and I think I didn't choose wrong, rather I should have bought it a year ago.
long battery life (announced 7 days) without always-on display and with GPS on mobile instead of watch
large display, bright even in sunlight
lots of clear statistics in the mobile app
closed system (no possibility to create your own app or custom dial)
a bit more time-consuming to enter the PIN when paying (4x scrolling and confirming the number; but can be accelerated by dialling a small PIN of type 1000)
more detailed stats for paywall (Fitbit Premiun for 150, - per month with annual subscription)
I've owned every generation of Charge and I have to say this is the worst so far. Especially after the loss of the altimeter (barometric altimeter), the bracelet is, let's say, less usable as a tracker of sports activities in terms of cycling and running. I do a lot of running and cycling and without an altimeter the recorded data is very inaccurate, I would even say hardly usable as a reference.
Summing up my experience I have to recommend either inspire or up to Versa. Charge 5 doesn't make much sense.
the original silicone strap seems to be more durable than previous generations where they were consumables - we'll see over time
missing altimeter - at that moment they are on the same level as Inspire only with the advantage of contactless payment
The colour display is nice for PR in the sense of "hey we have a colour display", but after playing with the bracelet for a while you'll find it's useless, the practical person will be annoyed by the lack of simple, unambiguous dials. On each screen, the bracelet explicitly shows that it has a color display. It is more colourful than a colouring book in kindergarten, to the extent that any clarity is lost. The 4th generation display was preferable.
Compared to the previous generation of Charge 4, the response to water has deteriorated. The 4th generation was able to identify water contact quite well and reduced the sensitivity on the touchscreen (e.g. in the shower). The 5th generation must be manually switched to water mode or the bracelet must be removed, otherwise you risk unwanted actions on the bracelet. I only took the 3rd and 4th generation off my hand to charge.
questionable availability of original replacement silicone straps on the Czech market
If you're more active, I don't recommend the watch, the heart rate measurement is inaccurate and the whole calories are then miscalculated too. For the city as a fashion accessory (they are stylishly small quite, fits even on a smaller man's hand) and for paying super thing. Sleep also measures well, calories, steps and distance only as a guide. It is 7 km to Lysá hora from Ostravice by the red road, the watch showed 10 km.
Nice touch screen, no buttons
One of the most affordable with NFC payment
Mobile app quite clear
Battery on all functions and display still on max. brightness, I recharge every 2 days
The heart rate measurement is horrible inaccurately under load, I hiked the whole Lysá hora mountain in Beskydy almost with a heart rate of 90, but I was definitely around 150 almost all the time
FitBit Premium app with more advanced stats is paid
I bought a bracelet because of the unique combination of monitored parameters.
After I paid my first subscription for the seventh month, the bracelet completely stopped working, sent for a complaint.
Health functions - ECG, skin temperature, sleep quality, stress measurement.
Good, more realistic sleep measurements. Unlike the previous Honor Band 5, which sometimes just calculated what he wanted for vigilance
Despite all the hygienic efforts, I have a constant rash from plastic bracelets.
Only original plastic bracelets hold properly, textile and metal are not available.
Plastic and metal bracelets from Ali, which I don' t have a rash from, come out and unfold when my wrist is bent
The shocking response of the display, they respond normally to the third fourth attempt
Absence of immediate measurement of oxygen saturation, only a 24-hour graph is available.
After six months, health metrics are charged with an absurd flat rate of CZK 300 / month.
The axes in the application charts have insufficient or no labels.
The sleep graph can only be displayed below the share button and there is no axis on it - only the beginning and the end, no hours, nothing.
The menus in the bracelet menu cannot be properly edited or moved
Terrible registration and installation martyrdom.
The application does not work offline. Even for displaying older data, it always requires a switched on position, BT, and a connection to the net.
Updating data from a bracelet never works for the first time, it always announces done, but downloads only part of the data.
The clock is not displayed when the exercise is running
the language setting is not in the application, but in the phone settings, where I set the language for the Fitbit application - so it' s a bit daunting
so far I have not been able to set the 24 hour time format
Lack replacement instructions are missing! That' s why I managed to break the watch straps on my watch. Not everyone is forged in these things, which the store probably doesn' t know. They did not accept my complaint. Therefore, the product ends up in the trash. If he was there, it wouldn' t happen.
Appearance wise, it is a nice bracelet but it has much more features than the 4. In addition to the lack of ECG measurement on the SK, I also have a problem with dropping battery capacity (drop battery and need to restart) as described by many users on fitbit forum. If I compare it with charge 4, and the need to pay a premium account for better data, charge 5 is quite disappointing for me. After 6 years with fitbit, I'm thinking about looking around 200€ for a Garmin
Elegant appearance
Display
Fewer features compared to 4 (e.g. vyskomer for activities)
missing features that are written in the purchase offer
uncluttered functions
disgust dials
you can't even give European time format 24h
weak vibration on notifications
