While the device is compact and beautiful, and I also like the idea of economical printing without cartridge replacement, it's not without its annoying flaws.
Relatively simple setup and installation.
Compact and elegant design.
Decent network functions.
Print quality from macOS apps is worse than from Windows. Worse resolution, no font smoothing, text looks terrible, especially medium and small sizes. Tested on several versions with different processor architectures. Universal drivers (PCL) do not work. Probably a bug in the driver implementation, but it is not known how long it is pending. The same applies when printing from iOS / iPad.
The manufacturer recommends printing from the HP Smart app, but it requires a user account and can't handle all formats, only the most common ones. Print quality is slightly better, but still worse than Windows. The difference is visible to the naked eye.
Scanning software for macOS does not offer the option to scan documents in black and white, only in greyscale or colour. The maximum resolution is 300 dpi. There is no duplex scanning option with the automatic feeder. The standard scanning utility on macOS allows you to scan in black and white, but the PDF file size is too large, 1.5-2 MB instead of 150-200 KB per page. The scanning utility for Windows is slightly better, offering black and white scanning as well as double-sided automatic scanning (for this, just take a stack of documents, flip them over and scan again, and all the pages are in the right places).
The scanner's automatic feeder jams several times on each page. This causes the letters to expand on some lines and shrink on others. For normal-sized text, it's just unsightly, but readability doesn't suffer too much. Text in small print may even disappear. I don't know if this is a mechanical failure of the feed mechanism, or a lack of buffer, or a driver error.
