I previously had a JBL Flip 3 which I was very happy with. Now, when I was dealing with the purchase of a portable speaker, JBL was the clear choice for me. I can' t find the Flip 4, the Flip 6 seems expensive to me, so I automatically reached for the Flip 5. The sound is great again, however, I missed something in the sound performance. When examining the parameters in more detail, I found that the Flip 5 already has only one speaker (see the 20W power figure). Older versions have 2x 8W in their parameters, because they have two inside the washing machine instead of one. That' s why I finally decided to compare it to the Flip Essential, which is probably just a rebranded Flip 3. I can' t say that the Flip 5 has significantly worse sound. On the contrary, it sounded better for some songs, even though it only has one speaker. The Flip 5 can definitely play louder and it definitely has more bass. The Essential was able to render the piano, saxophone and singing voice better. When you use it in a room and have it a little distance from each other, the sound fills the space better and you don' t feel like it' s playing from one place. This is also why I ended up keeping the Essential.
