As usual, I don't write reviews at all, but now I have to. These speakers are absolutely terrible and the built in speakers in the macbook pro sound better! Until now I had Genius SP-HF1800A, which sounded great, but they went away. So I put on the reviews that the Mackie CRX are great and suitable for video editing and I am mega disappointed. The sound is very overbassed, some people might like it and I could probably live with that. But when listening quietly, some sounds/frequencies are not audible at all - but not at all. They are only audible when I turn the speakers up very loud. For example. forest rustling - on the rattles of the built-in macbook speakers it is normally audible, when using the Mackie CRX I hear nothing. The sound seems to pulsate as the word is spoken, becoming quieter and louder again, as if each time you pause while speaking, it becomes quieter. And it's not a one-piece problem. I thought it was a defect so I returned the speakers and ordered new ones and both had the same problem. So I'm returning the other ones and looking for another brand.

CR5-XBT. Office 3x3m. Placed in the corners. I'm glad I decided to go with them in the end. As a musician, I know you can get much better ones, but for normal music listening, games, movies, etc. it's a total bomb at this price. Frequency nicely neutrally balanced. I probably wouldn't recommend them for techno though - the bass is more obscured. Stand-by does not fizz-absolutely silent. The only thing that annoyed me out of the box was the wiring. If you plan to put them further apart than 1 meter, get a longer, better quality and stronger double line. The same applies to sinche. They are not a one-litre notebook speaker, so I would expect commensurate quality, not a blob through which half the sound is lost on the way.
Otherwise, top for me.

Unfortunately, I cannot evaluate the CR4-X model positively, because as some posts in the discussion mention here, the boxes are very noisy at rest, regardless of the volume setting. So it' s not very suitable as a box for a PC. Although the sound is otherwise very good.

The only drawback is probably the noise of the speakers after switching on. You can hear it in a quiet room whether you have the speakers at 10% or 100% and if you want to listen to songs just softly in the background, you hear more noise than the song and it's quite distracting. It's caused by the tweeter- probably some bad pieces or poorly filtered voltage. The only way to solve this is to manually turn off the speakers after listening.
But this is probably the problem most CR4-X suffer from, there is plenty of it on the internet. So I had to return them and exchange them for the CR5-X model, which does not have this feature.
