We have a benchtop vacuum, so for more permanent storage we vacuum with sealing foil. The tabletop one also has tubing to suck out the plugs and valve containers, but it's terribly inconvenient to pull out, unpack, plug in, so I've never done it. I wanted this vacuum packer for things like this, I unwrap the factory vacuum packed cheeses, salami, cut a piece (take a few slices), put it in a bag and re-pack with this vacuum packer that sits in a rack right on my kitchen counter and put it in the fridge. The performance is comparable to the desktop one and is more than sufficient.
