My main reason for buying and using it was the need to deal with the interconnection of multiple VLANs in the local network (inter-VLAN routing mode) and filtering by IP addresses of individual networks, enabling or disabling access to the Internet. All this is combined with Wi-Fi access points, each of which works simultaneously with multiple networks (transmitting multiple SSIDs), where each wireless network (one SSID) corresponds to one VLAN in the wired part of the network.
However, Mikrotik can be used for many other network "magic" and for various other purposes. The location of the element does not necessarily require proximity to a power outlet for the power adapter, it can also be powered over a data cable (PoE).
Microroticas have their own special graphical interface, which is practically the same for different devices; what you learn from them, you can apply elsewhere. The very broad functionality is linked to a richer menu, which requires some getting used to in the setup process. Knowledge of network services and protocols is an advantage.

Software updates for Mikrotik are released quite regularly

For someone who is used to the graphical menus of D-Link, TP-Link devices, the Mikrotik setup may be unusual and require time to get familiar with.

If you have another active element from Mikrotik, for example this Ethernet router can be powered from a UTP cable and therefore you do not need the supplied power adapter. You save one position in the drawer. Note that the previous active element that powers this router must have the ability to output PoE or Power over Ethernet
