I bought this camera to replace my MiVue 786 Wi-Fi, which had gone to silicon heaven (I reckon the supercapacitor had failed, as the camera didn’t remember the time when switched on, so it was recording nonsense), which is why I’m comparing these cameras in this review. I chose the new Mio MiVue 935W 4K dashcam because of its 4K resolution and, above all, because it uses the same method of attaching to the windscreen, so I didn’t have to remove the old adhesive mount and could use it for the new dashcam. I get the impression that the new camera has a weaker speaker. Overall, I find it more confusing to work out what settings to use than with the previous model. I like the option to turn off the display and show the speed – although I don’t use it – and the setting for the distance at which the camera alerts you to speed cameras in the database, with two alert options: an audible tone and a voice announcement. What I definitely view very negatively is the speed camera alerts. The update does not start after the downloaded database has been transferred to the card. Although I have a full GPS signal, the camera sometimes alerts me to a speed camera and sometimes it doesn’t. Sometimes ahead of the measurement, sometimes after it, or not at all. It doesn’t alert me to the radar I’ve added myself either – or rather, I entered the start and end points of the measured section, and it only alerts me to the end point, although I can see the start point listed as well. If you switch off the system’s button sounds, the camera will not alert you to the radar with a sound; instead, the display will simply light up and count down the metres. There’s nothing about this in the manual, so I discovered through trial and error that once I’d enabled the system button sounds, the camera also started to give audible alerts (if it does give them at all). I find the product a bit of a let-down, but recording is my main priority. I use Waze to avoid speed cameras

As far as I’m concerned, it’s the ideal dashcam. I haven’t had any experience with other dashcams, but this one works well for me. I bought a removable windscreen mount, as I switch the dashcam between my car and my van, so I just bought the cable as well, and now I’ve got everything set up in both vehicles – I just have to swap the dashcam over.
